How do mechanical arrowheads work?
I got some new arrow heads this Christmas and I usually use fixed blade arrowheads but I got mechanical. And I want to understand how they work because I want to know about my equipment before I actually use it out in the woods.
mechanical broadheads usually have a rubber band with them, you fold the blades back as directed in the box and put the rubber band on it to keep the blades closed, when the broadhead hits the animal and starts to go in, the rubber band is pushed out of the way of the baldes and they open while in the body, this gives better penetration, but the blades can sometimes malfunction and not open, so it only makes a hole only the size of the front blade, often not sufficient enough to kill the animal quickly.
