why are mechanical mantel clocks so expensive?

I was looking for a gift for my grandpa and I found a cool clock shop with mantel clocks and such. Why are the mechanical keywound clocks so expensive? the battery clocks are so much cheaper. Are the keywound clocks really worth the extra money?

Well, they're more expensive because they're actually hard to make due to the many tiny parts that must be produced to exact specifications (electronic ones are just a chip and a few lights). As for whether they're worth it or not...it depends on how much you value looks over function, I suppose. Your decision.
