Machine Carriage

How hard should machine knitting be? I just started yesterday and my back is killing me this morning!?

My machine is a Singer 322, I have oiled it, and it knits beautifully, but the effort required to move the carriage back and forth seems excessive - or am I just a wimp?
Thanks for answering. I have heard of having to "wax" some where, but i did spend about four hours trying things out.

I have two machines with manual carriages. Oiling is one thing, some also require waxing in other areas. It shouldn't be more difficult than opening a filled dresser drawer. Even fully-lubed, the side to side motion is *NOT* natural. Over-doing can agrivate or, perhaps even create, wrist damage like speedy grocery check-out folk may develope.

Don't over-do. There's a difference between being literally weak-wristed and being a wimp. IMO, a wimp won't attempt to *gradually* increase wrist strength. It will need to be a gradual process. IMO, if you don't over-do, you'll be going full-speed, full-strength by this time next year. If you over-do, it can hurt a whole lot and could be more than just temporary.
