Why are some displays LCD?
This may sound like a weird question but here goes. I have two alarm clocks in my house. One alarm clock uses a LCD to display the numbers. The other alarm clock uses a LED to display the numbers. This got me to thinking. What are the advantages/disadvantages of an LCD? What are the advantages/disadvantages of an LED? Why would you choose one over the other? Is the decision purely arbitrary or is there some reason some clocks use LCD and other use LED?
An LCD screen is usually still a little more expensive to produce, although the price has probably come down considerably - especially for stuff as simple to display as numbers.
LED's are really reliable, and harder to mess up (I know I beat the crap out of an alarm clock that won't shut up from time to time).
