My grandfather was diagnoised with a brain tumor, I have a few questions... please read?

Recently, my grandfather (86) started acting funny. My grandmother took him to the Dr. where he was diagnosed with "demetia".

Along with the diagnosis, they ordered an MRI for him.

Later the MRI showed a brain tumor the size of a golf ball.

Here are my questions - dont be afraid to be blunt:

1. If his behavior has already started to change - and the size of the tumor is so large - how long in your opinion until he passes away?

2. How likley is it that they would be willing to operate on him to remove the tumor, given his age?

I know there are so many variables here. But based on any experiance you may have and the info i have given, just do your best to let me know what you think...

Thanks.

is it malignant?
it is sad but 86 is pretty old, and they most likely would not operate, possibly even if it was somebody young. depending on the size of and type of tumor - likely treatment would be chemotherapy or radiation.
at this point IF the cancer is too advanced it will be a matter of treating him so he lives out the rest of his life comfortably, without pain.
on the other hand, he may be able to kick the cancer, live peaceably a few more years and die of old age instead
