Jewel Gold
Jewel Gold

How did Voltaire view human nature, religion, and riches (gold, money, jewels)?
I have a research paper in my honors world history class and we have to read a bok written by a famous philosopher and I chose Candide by Voltaire. I finished the book and I understand it but I also have to critique it and try to get a better understanding about Voltaire. Please help me I have to have five pages by Monday. It's harder than it seems.
I thought you said you understood the book?
Voltaire believed in religious freedom, and was a Deist. I think he believed that a person had to work (earn) their livelihood. The gold and jewels in the story simply represented the unearned. He wrote a very funny and entertaining story basically to say "let us cultivate our garden."
