Do you need padding for laminate flooring if there is hardwood flooring underneath?
I'm installing laminate flooring in my grandfather-in-law's house.
It is not a slab foundation and already has original hardwood flooring.
He wants laminate, although I don't know why he doesn't want the original flooring he already has. Anyway, does he need the padding underneath since it is not going on a slab?
Yes you do. One of the principal functions of the padding is to allow the floor to move as it expands and contracts. This is the reason for the 1/4" gap around the perimeter as well. It's a little pricey, especially for the better pads, but it is necessary. Hope this helps.
