Cuckoo clocks!!!?
I have been handed down a german cuckoo clock from my father in law,the hands on the clock are a little loose and also it cuckoos at the wrong time, is thier anything i can do to mend it before i send it to a clock specialist
IF you are very careful it is possible to reset the hands so that it cuckoo's at the right time. If you don't feel competent to do this then send it to a specialised clock repairer.
1. Set the cuckoo off and count the number of cuckoo's undo the centre screw slightly this will allow you to move the hands. Both hour hand and minute hand will need to be moved.
2. With the hour hand pointing directly to the hour that the cuckoo has just called, move the minute hand to the 12 (XII) then re-tighten the hub screw making sure that the minute hand doesn't move at all.
3. Slowly advance the hands taking care as some cuckoo clocks call for the half hour once. Advance the hands forwards until the clock calls the next hour. At the next hour the clock should call the right number of times. If not repeat the process from 1 - 3 again until it does.
On this type of clock it should be noted that for Daylight saving changes ALWAYS advance the clock 1 hour for summer time and ALWAYS advance the clock 11 hours for winter time, allowing the clock to finish calling the hour and half hour each time you make a time adjustment.
Failing that take the clock to a reputable cuckoo clock repairer as you may damage your clock beyond repair permanently!
It will be very pricey to have this done.
