what makes dealing with different time zones easier?
I am travelling a lot from the US to Europe, country hop within a week while I am there and travel from West to East Coast within the US. It's hard to adjust myself or keeping a healthy sleeping schedule. Anybody know of herbal remedies or methods that can help adjust your body clock and get enough rest?
First, on the long flights, you should take the last flight available on any given day so that you have a better chance of sleeping. Next, don't drink any alcohol on the flight. Third, bring a sleep mask and earplugs. Fourth, reject any food offered by the airline -- eat before and after you fly. Fifth, you can try melatonin, but it doesn't help everyone.
When you lose time zones traveling east, try to eat and go to sleep at the "normal" times for that locale. Getting some exercise is very good for adjusting and staying healthy. I also try to extend trips a day or two before and after just to decompress and do some sightseeing. Finally, if you are traveling often, stick with a single airline, and collect your frequent flyer miles. If you have premium status, then you can request an exit row seat to get some extra space. Whenever possible, you should use your miles for upgrades rather than trying to use them for additional travel.
None of these approaches helps to overcome the hassles of unpacking and undressing for the TSA or the deteriorating service on the ground and in the air, but I hope that it helps a bit.
