8 day clock?
We have just come into possesion of a KIENZLE 8 day wall clock (circa 1922-1925). Hung in the same spot for 80+ years. Belonged to my wife's grandmother. We were told that it has never been out for cleaning and it was lubed by putting a kerosene soaked cloth in the case once every year or so. Sounds a little strange to me but the clock keeps perfect time and works well. Should we send it out to be professionally cleaned or just let it run?
Although it's a 'keeper' what is one of these clocks worth?
keep the ''experts'' away from it. just do the kerosene thing. For a clock of this quality kerosene is an excellent lubricant. you can ''wipe'' the gear case brackets with the kero and enough will leak into the gear axels to lubricate it.
