Does anyone know how to open a locked antique desk that uses a skeleton key?

I have a large antique style desk with a roll top cover. It locks with a skeleton type key. When I moved the top of the desk was rolled down and the key is lost. I have tried popping the lock, sticking things in the whole to open it, took off the plate surrounding the key whole. The plate says mona lisa, don't know if that helps anyone figure out the type of desk. There is no way to get into the lock but with the key. Help!!!!

The first thing you need to do is determine what type of skeleton key is needed, ie: is it one that requires the lock to go "into" the key (the key will have a hole in the middle), or is it one that has a solid key, thus when put into the hole it pushes the lock thus allowing the key to turn. Good luck on your delima......Granny
