what do i do to fix an overwound mantle clock.?

i bought an antique wm.l.gilbert clock that feels like someone wound it too tight.is there an easy way to take care of this problem.also the finish looks like an alligator skin.either that or it got really hot during a house fire.

Find someone who is well qualified to repair your clock. Check your Yellow Pages or ask around for someone who can repair it for you. I don't know if a jeweler would be able to repair it or not. Call & ask one or more & see what they say. Good luck!
